T'NALAK FESTIVAL
What is T'nalak Festival?
The T'nalak Festival is named after a woven cloth popularized by the province's T'boli tribe and is slated on July 12-15. The festival is celebrated during the foundation anniversary of South Cotabato. It showcases the unique and colorful traditions of the t'boli tribe of South Cotabato. Its highlight are the streetdancing competition and the agro-industrial fair here in Koronadal city.
This week long celebration shows the province's rich and diverse culture. Creative stalls were sporadically seen everywhere which advertised the province's native products. Ornate designs of nipa huuts located on Alunan sidewalks attract tourists as well as exhibits each municipalities creativity. And the streetdancing which is one of the highlight of the festival conveys each municipalities uniqueness.
The different competitions held such as the literary, singing and dancing contests, and the battle of the bands just shows that Cotabatenos are talented. And the different rides at the protech center brings joy not only to children but to people of different ages. And the beautiful fireworks display definitely added to the beauty and extravagance of the T'nalak festival.
A lot of people could be seen celebrating the festival at night. At night, there are those who prefer to watch the battle of the bands at the alunan avenue; some are strolling, appreciating the nipa hut display; others chose to go to "ukay2" to buy used but still usable products; while others are at the protech center enjoying the rides; and many go to the South Cotabato Cultural Gym to witness the socio-cultural events being held there. People may have different purpose in coming to Koronadal to witness the T'nalak festival but one thing is common, most of them are absolutely enjoying.
Truly, T'nalak festival is essential because it gives the Cotabatenos the opportunity to show off their talents and creativity as well as the chance to exhibit the beauty of South Cotabato's itself and its native products. It is one way of instilling to the people the importance of South Cotabato's culture.
